The Welding Institute

Your Professional Engineering Institution

The Welding Institute is the leading  professional engineering institution for the registration of people involved with welding and joining all over the world. We exist to support welding and joining personnel, to promote the profession and its importance in today’s world, and to secure its place in the future.

We’re a licensed member of the Engineering Council and regularly nominate and submit our eligible members for registration as Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians. Visit our Engineering Council page to find out more.

We also serve as a voice of the industry. We provide authoritative, respected guidance to statutory bodies such as the British Standards Institution, the Engineering Council and even the UK government.

The Welding Institute and TWI

The Welding Institute is the professional membership arm of internationally renowned engineering research and technology organisation TWI. Since our formation in 1923, we’ve been supporting the careers of welding and joining professionals. As we grew, we began to conduct research into welding, joining and associated technologies – research that TWI continues today.

TWI has been at the forefront of welding technology for many decades. By being connected to this centre for pioneering research, The Welding Institute is able to provide its members with tools and career support taken from the leading edge of industrial advancement.

Becoming a member of The Welding Institute grants access to specialist content from TWI, including knowledge summaries, e-books, special databases and the TWI library, the world’s largest collection of literature on welding, joining and allied processes.

For more details visit the membership services section of our site, where you can find a breakdown of all the TWI technical content available to members.
