India Student Chapter

Our India Student Chapter was established in 2025, and is designed to engage students in the fields of Welding Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in India. The Chapter serves as a platform for students to enhance their technical knowledge, build professional networks, and contribute to the advancement of engineering practices in India.

Who is the Chapter open for?

The Chapter welcomes undergraduate and postgraduate students in India studying Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, Manufacturing, Metallurgy, or related subjects.

You’ll need to be a student member of The Welding Institute to join - membership is free. If you’re not already registered, you can apply here.

What does the Chapter Offer?

The Chapter provides students in India with the opportunity to connect with like‑minded peers and engage with a professional institute supported by a global network of industry experts. Members gain access to learning, development, and networking experiences designed to support their academic and career growth.

The Chapter organises a range of activities, including:

  • Guest lectures and technical webinars with industry experts and researchers

  • Workshops

  • Certification awareness programmes for CSWIP, BGAS, or NDT Level I/II

  • Student competitions

  • Field visits

  • Technical paper presentations and opportunities to contribute to industry journals or newsletters

Chapter Aims and Objectives:

  • Promote awareness of The Welding Institute and its mission among engineering students in India.
  • Foster student engagement in welding technologies, fabrication methods, materials science, mechanical design, automation, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Encourage participation in technical events, and local industry collaborations.
  • Build a student community passionate about innovation and standards in welding and mechanical engineering.
  • Support skill development through student-led initiatives and networking.
