Your Professional Engineering Institution
Who is The Welding Institute?
The Welding Institute is a professional engineering institution, meaning that we are able to register engineers and technicians globally into the Institute. The Welding Institute is the leading professional institution for the registration of welding and joining engineers. However, we also offer registration to all engineers, regardless of your technical background.
What we do
We are a licensed member of the Engineering Council and this allows us to assess Members to nationally register as professional engineers and technicians. This also means that we can nominate and support eligible Members to become registered with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Engineering Technician (EngTech).
We also serve as a voice of the industry. We provide authoritative, respected guidance to statutory bodies such as the British Standards Institution, the Engineering Council and even the UK government.

The Welding Institute and TWI
The Welding Institute is the Professional Membership arm of TWI Ltd. The Welding Institute was formed in 1923, where we supported the development of welding and joining professionals. As we grew, we began to conduct research into welding, joining and associated technologies. TWI Ltd now continues this research and The Welding Institute professionally registers engineers.
Through The Welding Institute’s connection to TWI, our Members are able to access TWI’s technical information and knowledge. View all of our membership benefits.
