Overview: Attracting over 1m visitors a year The Kelpies have become one of Scotland’s leading tourist attractions. Whilst they are undoubtedly a stunning piece of public art, they are also a showcase for excellence in engineering and construction.  Like all successful projects, creating the worlds’ largest equine sculpture was the result of a multi-disciplinary collaborative process; SH Structures Sales Director Tim Burton will tell the fascinating story behind how the artwork was designed and constructed before being opened to the public in April 2014.


Speaker: Tim Burton (SH Structures - Sales Director)


Speaker Biography: Starting his career as a land surveyor, Tim moved into construction as an engineering surveyor working on steel structures in the offshore sector. Establishing a survey company specialising in the dimensional control and site engineering. The business worked on numerous high profile projects both in the UK and overseas. This extensive site experience led Tim into project management before finally moving into a sales role as Sales & Marketing Director at Westbury Structures. Joining SH Structures in 2005, Tim’s primary role is generating new business as well as being responsible for all marketing activities and the development and maintenance of the various company supply chain systems. Tim carries out numerous presentations to architects and engineers and industry professional bodies about SH Structures’ work on complex structures. Tim sits on the BCSA Bridges Committee and the executive committee of IABSE and also works with educational establishments and various industry bodies to actively promote careers in construction.
