Overview: This introductory briefing will give members an overview of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and why it is important for professional growth and development. In this webinar we will cover the following topics:

  • Overview of CPD requirements and expectations
  • Guidance on recording your CPD using The Welding Institute’s tools
  • The CPD cycle
  • Examples of activities that can count as acceptable CPD
  • How to use the Engineering Council’s online professional development system mycareerpath®
  • Hear from members on how they have used and benefitted from CPD throughout their career

There will be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about CPD as part of the webinar.

Tom Bates (Membership Officer)

Louise Tan (Membership Officer)

Martin Boyd (Acting Vice-Chair of Membership Committee and Vice-Chair for East Midlands Branch)


Speaker Biography:

Lotte  joined The Welding Institute in 2008 as a Membership Officer and has since taken on the role of Membership Team Manager looking after our Membership Officers.

Tom joined The Welding Institute in 2017 as a Membership Officer supporting applications for Professional Membership and Engineering Council registration.

Louise joined The Welding Institute in 2019 as a Membership Officer and has taken a key role in supporting and developing CPD.

Martin joined The Welding Institute in 2007 and works for Rolls-Royce in Derby. Martin has undertaken a wide range of roles with and for the Institute which have all contributed to the attainment of his CEng in 2020

Continuing Professional Development (CPD): Attending this event supports your professional development.  You can claim 2 CPD points per hour for this event.  As a member of the Welding Institute you can record your CPD activity online from your membership portal.

Please note that any recording of the event will be uploaded to our Membership Portal for members to view at a later date but only if agreed with the speakers. A copy of the presentation slide deck will not be shared unless agreed with the speakers.
