This is a member only event for Members and friends of the London Branch of The Welding Institute. All members are welcome to attend. This meeting will consist of the following presentations by Branch members;
Overcasting - An Innovative Method of Joining, by Alireza Valizadeh
Alireza Valizadeh will talk about the Overcasting process in which parts are bonded to each other during the casting process rather than it being the last stage a manufacturing. This removes the welding stage from the production process with consequent cost savings. The talk will address the process, its advantages, limitations and applications.
Centreline Cracking in Steel Plate Fabrication, by Alan Denney
Alan Denney will talk about centreline segregation cracking in steel plates based on project experience. The talk addresses: the occurrence of segregation, the effect on weldability of that zone in the material, the means of avoidance and guidance and code requirements.
Alternative Energy Initiatives in the UK - A Taster, by Michael Lawrence
Michael Lawrence will talk briefly about the wider picture of reduction of GHG (Green House Gases), some of the big industrial initiatives going on in the UK and also touch on some of the potential technical problems for wind, carbon capture and storage and hydrogen production and distribution.
