This is a Scottish Branch event, organised and hosted by our Scottish Branch Committee for members of The Welding Institute's Sottish, North Scottish and Highland and Islands Branch members.
Overview: There are presently a number of on-going developments in the test standards for the qualification of carbon steels for sour service, in particular NACE MR0175, NACE TM0316, NACE TM0284, NACE TM0177, NACE TM21451 and ISO 3845. This presentation will review the sour service cracking mechanisms for carbon steels and discuss the proposed changes to the test standards and the implications for the qualification of carbon steels for sour service.
Speaker: Phil Dent BSC MPhil CEng FIMMM Element Materials Technology - Global Corrosion Specialist
Speaker Biography: Phil is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM) and has been a Member of NACE since 2007. He has a BSc (Hons) in Metals Technology and an MPhil by corrosion research from the University of Birmingham.
Phil has over 40 years of experience in the fields of metallurgy and corrosion, is chair of the Marine Corrosion Forum (MCF) and an active member of a number of NACE and ISO technical committees, including the Document Project Manager of NACE TM0284 (HIC), Vice chair of NACE TG299 (Oversight committee for ISO 15156) and Project leader for the development of ISO/IOGP 3845 (Full Ring Test).
