Sheffield Branch Technical Talk

This is a Sheffield Branch event organised and run by our Sheffield Branch for its members. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview: TWI is actively engaged with its Members in the Energy Transition. The presentation will introduce some of the areas and provide examples of where TWI is supporting its Members in their drive to Net Zero and the Hydrogen Economy. It will demonstrate the 75 years of experience available at TWI in characterising the influence of hydrogen on the performance of materials and welds in particular

Speaker: Dr Andrew Leonard (TWI)

Speaker Biography: Dr Andrew Leonard is a Chartered Engineer with a track record in delivering multi-million-dollar ($MM) materials and welding engineering solutions in upstream Oil and Gas. He has led diverse, geographically spread materials, corrosion and welding teams on major projects and capital equipment delivery with worldwide scope.

Dr Leonard has a background in metallurgy and has worked as a subject matter expert in subsea materials selection. He chaired the DNV JIP that delivered DNV RP B204 Recommended Practice for Welding Subsea Equipment and was a subject matter expert for the Oil and Gas Producers Association Standardisation.

After studying at The University of Sheffield, he first worked at TWI between 1996 and 2004, working predominantly with stainless steels and non-ferrous alloys. Between 2004 and 2020 he worked for an Oil and Gas Major leading teams responsible for materials selection and welding engineering on major projects. He has been active in the standardisation and assurance for the specification, fabrication and installation of subsea equipment (including flexible pipe, umbilicals, pipelines, manifolds and subsea trees). Andrew re-joined TWI in 2021 as a Consultant supporting its Oil and Gas Industrial Members
