Preloaded Bolted Connections: Recent Lessons Learned

What will the event cover?

Welding is generally considered to be a highly technical process requiring expert input from inception to execution.  Bolting is often regarded as a less technical activity, but a lack of understanding or poor execution can lead to expensive and time-consuming reworks.

What will you learn?

This presentation hopes to emphasise that bolting should be executed properly and using 2 case studies will give attendees an insight into some of the possible pitfalls.  It is hoped that the attendees will gain an understanding of the principle of preloaded connections and their execution, thing to avoid, and details to be aware of.

Our industry expert:

Neil Cruickshank BEng(Hons) CEng MWeldI

Meet the speaker:

Neil is a former structural steel work designer, a Chartered Engineer with The Welding Institute, a CSWIP senior welding inspector, ICorr coatings inspector, and a Project Engineer with Sandberg LLP.  He has worked on many projects involving structural bolting and his current workload includes technical reviews and inspections on highways and rail bridges in weathering steel, incorporating preloaded bolt connections.

Benefits from attending the event:

  • Information transfer from experts
  • Discussion, questions and answers on the specific topics
  • A broader understanding of the extent of standards in the industry
  • Attendance of this event qualifies for CPD

Continuing Professional Development (CPD):

The Welding Institute awards points towards CPD for delegates attending this webinar. Every hour attendance of an event will earn 2 points towards your continuing professional development.
