Southern Counties Branch Annual General Meeting 2026 and

Technical Presentation on Diffusion Bonding:  Applications and Latest Developments

The Welding Institute Southern Counties Branch invite you to their AGM:

The AGM will take place on 15 January 2026 at 7pm at the King Rufus Pub, 135 Winchester Road, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh SO53 2DU.  Following on from the AGM there will be a Technical Presentation.

Industry expert will be presenting on:

Diffusion Bonding: Applications and Latest Developments

Presentation Overview:

Diffusion bonding is normally used to bond the alloys, composites, and ceramics which cannot be joined using conventional welding processes such as arc or laser welding.  Applications of solid-state diffusion bonding of similar or dissimilar alloys and latest developments in the field will be outlined.  Exemplary applications include fabrication of key components for vaccine sterilisers during the COVID-19 pandemic and sapphire-based chips to study biological samples under 1000 bar hydrostatic pressure.

Some samples will be available for viewing.

The presentation should be of interest to academics and particularly the research engineers who are looking for new value-based manufacturing processes.

Meet the speaker:

Dr Amir Shirzadi Director at Cambridge Joining Technology Limited.

Speaker details:

Dr Amir Shirzadi has a PhD in Diffusion Bonding from the University of Cambridge and holds several patents in the field.  He has established a state-of-the-art laboratory in Cambridge where he develops novel methods for joining un-weldable materials.  He is a Chartered Engineer and also a Fellow of The Welding Institute, The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IoM3) as well as a Visiting Fellow of The Open University.
