The Welding Institute Eastern Counties Branch invite you to a presentation followed by their 2026 AGM:

The AGM will take place on 24 February 2026 at 6.30pm at TWI, Granta Park, Great Abington, Cambridge, CB21 6AL (with online option). Arrival from 6pm with refreshments in F4.

The History of Welding ..... as depicted on Postage Stamps

What will you learn? 

This presentation will track the history of welding from early non-fusion welding through the invention of fusion welding all through images displayed on stamps and postal history. The presentation will cover the formation of Welding Institutes around the world and the IIW. Finally it looks at modern day applications of welding as well as training and health and safety issues.

Our industry expert:

Dr Graham Wylde 

Meet the speaker: 

Graham worked almost his entire working life at TWI Cambridge. He worked initially in the Fatigue Department and published over 50 papers on aspects of fatigue design. He was seconded to EWI in the USA for 3 years to set up their Engineering Department. On his return he headed up TWI’s Industrial Membership Group, eventually taking personal responsibility for TWI Members in Japan, China and Korea.

Graham served on TWI’s Executive Board as Associate Director for many years before retirement.
