Wales and Northumbria Branch Technical Presentation: Improving National Welding Capability

The Welding Institute Wales and Northumbria Branches invite you to their April technical presentation:  Improving National Welding Capability (NWC) through Education, Training, Skills, and Careers

What will the event cover:

The International Institute of Welding (IIW) recently published its NWC guidance note implementing the Educations, Training, Skills, and Careers Building Block authored by Chris Smallbone with the next NWC guidance note - Implementing the Technology Transfer and Diffusion Building Block (to be published soon):  https://iiwelding.org/iiw-jointothefuture/nwc-gn/

This presentation will highlight some of the strategies and actions which can assist individuals, organisations, and countries to improve the national welding capability and benefit through enhanced skills, employment opportunities and security in various forms:

  • The need to create a national model and plan to implement the Education, Training, Qualification, and Certification (ETQC), Skills and Careers NWC building block.
  • The plan-on-a-page approach to ETQC, Skills, and Careers as well as technology transfer and diffusion.
  • Analyses of industry's needs in terms of welding related personnel and companies including the Welding Co-ordination Team (WCT) in line with ISO 14731 and ISO 3834.
  • Industry Sectoral Project (ISP) approaches including establishing sector demands.
  • The creation of formal networks of competent education, training, and career providers.
  • A situation analysis of all education, training, qualification, and certification centres including how they would meet future technological directions.
  • Upgrading of resources including trainers, educational materials, facilities, and equipment.
  • The ideal practical welding training centre.
