Presentation Overview:

The presentation will be on the Advances of ultrasonic imaging for girth weld inspection with the IWEX technology.

In this presentation, the principles and advances of ultrasonic imaging for girth weld inspection with the Applus IWEX system will be presented. Examples from different inspection applications (e.g. welds in carbon steel pipes and pipes with a corrosive resistant alloy layer) will be shared whereby the challenges and benefits will be illustrated.

Meet the speaker: 

Niels Pörtzgen obtained his MSc. and PhD. in Applied Physics at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He started his career at Applus in 2000 in the R&D department where he worked on projects related to the development of ultrasonic phased array technology and ultrasonic imaging methods (IWEX). He joined the pipeline department of Applus in 2012 where he was responsible for the market introduction of the IWEX technology. Today he works as a Technical Authority for this department.
