Advances in MIG Welding - presented by Bernd Rutzinger, Fronius Ltd. Followed by live demonstrations on I WAVE Pro and Stainless Steel.
In addition, Dr. James Wainwright from Cranfield University will be presenting on Advances in Welding Education - showcasing how educational advancements are driving industry progress.
BBQ and Networking:
Enjoy our BBQ and network with others working in welding technology, industry experts and leaders in the welding community.
Evening session: MSc Group Project Lecture Competition
Round off the day with the Cranfield University Welding Engineering MSc Group Project Lecture Competition , sponsored by The Welding Institute's London Branch.
Three Group projects will be presented by 18 MSc Students, currently enrolled at Cranfield University:
Laser welding of Duplex steels with oscillated profile
Improvement of surface finish for wear plate using Laser Scanning
The use of Flux Cored Wires with advanced power sources
These students bring an abundance of experience from across the globe. Including International Welding Engineer (IWE) and European Welding Engineer (EWE) diploma holders. An American Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), and a Non-Destructive Testing expert with 20+ years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry.
A panel of judges will evaluate each presentation and select a prizewinning team with the award to be presented by the President of The Welding Institute’s London Branch.

MEET THE SPEAKERS:
Dr. James Wainwirght
Advances in Welding Engineering Education
Dr. Wainwright holds a PhD in Manufacturing with respect to Welding and Additive Manufacturing of Titanium Alloys. They also act as module lead for several modules of the Welding Engineering MSc at Cranfield University, developing course material and teaching.
Chris Cathles
Advances in Weld Monitoring
Having worked at OIS Engineering Ltd in Great Yarmouth developing, manufacturing and selling the original PAMS (Portable Arc Monitoring Systems) from 1987 to 1994 Chris Cathles left OIS and started The Validation Centre (TVC) Ltd in 1995. Initially TVC was set up with his Business Partner Kim Hastings to provide service, support and calibration of Welding Inspection and NDT equipment. However in 1997 TVC started the development of their own Weld Datalogging and Monitoring systems and since then have developed equipment covering all aspects of weld data-logging and monitoring.
