JOIN OUR STRUCTURES AND INFRASTRUCTURE TECHNICAL GROUP (TG1) FOR THEIR SECOND BACK-TO-BASICS WEBINAR

Attendees will get information on the manufacture of reinforcing bars, the certification system CARES, the application of BS EN ISO 17660, Parts 1 and 2, weld procedure qualification testing, welder qualification testing, production testing and the setting up of the required welding controls.

We will also look at the common causes of failure and a review of things to avoid when planning and undertaking reinforcing bar welding.


Who should attend?

This webinar will be of interest to all involved in designing, specifying, controlling, testing and inspecting the welding of reinforcing bars, i.e., designers, welding engineers, inspectors, supervisors, etc.


There will be two presentations and ample time for questions.

MEET OUR EXPERT SPEAKERS

Matt Palmer

Presentation title: The Manufacture of Reinforcing Bars and the CARES Scheme

Matt is a metallurgist who has worked in the steel industry for 30 years, initially in quality and production management at a rebar and wire rod rolling mill, then as an auditor and scheme manager at CARES where he has been for 14 years.

Matt is chair of the BSi committee for reinforcing and prestressing steels and a member of the equivalent European and ISO standards committees.

His work at CARES has meant that he has visited hundreds of steel plants and rolling mills all over the world as well as many rebar fabricators both in the UK and Middle East.


Yohann Guellil CEng MEng MWeldI

Presentation title: A Practical Approach to Site Based Welding of Reinforcing Bars

Yohann is a Chartered Welding Engineer, Member of The Welding Institute and Senior Associate in Sandberg LLP which he joined in 2013 from Rowecord Engineering Ltd.

Yohann gained his Master’s Degree in Material Sciences and Welding Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique de l’ Université de Nantes where he has also been a guest lecturer since 2010.

Yohann has provided assistance to BYLOR, the main civil contractor at Hinkley Point C, for the setting up and monitoring of the site welding of reinforcing bars in line with the UK Cares Certification requirements.
