Materials, Performance & Integrity Technical Group The properties and behaviour of materials have a significant influence on the safety, reliability and service life of engineering components and structures. Understanding how metallic and non-metallic materials perform under different conditions, how they change over time and why failures occur is essential across many areas of engineering. The Materials, Performance & Integrity Technical Group explores material behaviour, engineering performance and the assessment of structural integrity, with a particular focus on the influence of welding, joining and manufacturing processes. The group is interested in how these processes affect material properties, performance in service and long-term integrity across a wide range of material systems, including metals, polymers, composites and multi-material structures. Topics of interest include material selection, degradation mechanisms, failure analysis, testing, characterisation and the development of methods used to assess and predict material and structural performance. By bringing together members, researchers and industry professionals, the group provides a forum for sharing knowledge, discussing technical challenges and learning from practical experience. Its activities support a deeper understanding of the relationship between materials, manufacturing processes and engineering performance, helping organisations make informed decisions to maintain the integrity, safety and reliability of components, structures and systems throughout their service life. |
