Branches

As a member, you can join your local branch network! With branches across the UK and an Australian Branch, it's a great way to connect with likeminded professionals in your area. You can also get involved by volunteering on branch committees which counts towards your CPD.

Events

Our technical groups and branches host a variety of in-person and online events. Attendance counts towards your CPD, with access to recordings and presentations afterward. It's a great way to stay informed, learn and connect with others.

Technical Groups

Across our nine technical groups - covering topics such as welding and joining, offshore energy, NDT, training, qualification and quality - you’ll find inviting, expert‑led events designed to connect you, inspire you and help you grow.

Younger Members' Committee (YMC)

The YMC promotes welding and joining to the next generation through educational outreach and by helping early‑career members build strong industry connections. It brings emerging professionals together in a supportive network designed to inspire, empower, and accelerate their career development.

The Welding and Joining Matters Journal

Our Welding and Joining Matters Journal is a quarterly publication, with each issue dedicated to a specific industry-related topic. It features expert reports and insights into the latest technological developments, making it a valuable resource for staying up to date within the field.

Professional Development

Being a member demonstrates your commitment to your career and your ongoing professional development. We encourage members to actively maintain their CPD by attending events or volunteering, which can support your eligibility when applying for professional registration.

Training and Development

Members receive a 5% discount on TWI Training and Examinations training courses, which cover major industry sectors and include recognised certification. Attendance also counts toward CPD recording.

IIW Membership

Our position as the UK IIW Member and Authorised National Body presents Members of The Welding Institute with the opportunity to take part in the IIW Technical Commissions, where they can contribute to and hear about innovation in the field of materials joining, and to access IIW certification schemes via TWI.

Library and Information Services

Access thousands of TWI publications, events, FAQs, and Job Knowledge through the digital library, plus the exclusive Weldasearch citation database for members.

Professional Membership Pathways

Members can register for our Professional Pathways sessions for free!

Professional Membership Pathways are a 20‑minute one‑to‑one session with a Membership Officer to explain assessments, guide your membership pathway, and answer any process questions.

Member Portal

Members can access the Member Portal, which provides on‑demand resources including branch webinar archives, the latest Welding and Joining Matters publication, the MyCareerPath CPD recording system, and TWI’s Digital Library.

Member Grade Post-Nominals

As a member you can also use your member grade post-nominals (AWeldI, TechWeldI, MWeldI, FWeldI) to showcase your professional status and commitment to the welding and joining community.

Volunteering

Members can volunteer in roles such as Accreditation Assessor, Professional Review Interviewer, or Journal Correspondent, and help support our community. You can also join many of our committees to make a difference!
