Scottish Branch February In-person Technical Presentation
The Welding Institute Scottish Branch invite you to their February in-person Technical Presentation at Altrad Babcock, Porterfield Rd, Renfrew, PA4 8DJ
Presentation title:
Development and application of ultrasonic imaging with the IWEX technology
What will the event cover?
In this presentation, a brief background will be presented with the main drivers and developments which resulted in ultrasonic imaging methodologies for non-destructive testing of industrial assets such as pipelines. In recent years, imaging strategies based on sectorial scans and based on full matrix captured (FMC) data sets have been recognised by industrial standards and today technologies and services are commercially available. Although most imaging strategies are based on the similar principles, implementations and therefore results may vary depending on their application. In this presentation, the principles of ultrasonic imaging will be revisited, and some different implementations will be compared, such as the Total Focusing Method (TFM) and Phase Coherent Imaging (PCI).
Results from practical applications obtained with the Applus IWEX system will be presented to illustrate similarities and differences. The benefits will be discussed for application such as girth weld inspection of new constructed pipelines and detection and sizing of cracks of in-service welds.
Our industry expert:
Niels Pörtzgen - Technical Authority, Applus Netherlands
Meet the speaker:
Niels Pörtzgen obtained his MSc. and PhD. in Applied Physics at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. He started his career at Applus in 2000 in the R&D department where he worked on projects related to the development of ultrasonic phased array technology and ultrasonic imaging methods (IWEX). He joined the pipeline department of Applus in 2012 where he was responsible for the market introduction of the IWEX technology. Today he works as a Technical Authority for this department.
Benefits from attending the event:
Continuing Professional Development (CPD):
The Welding Institute awards points towards CPD for delegates attending this webinar. Every hour attendance of an event will earn 2 points towards your continuing professional development.
