London Branch Technical Talk

This is a London and Kent Branch event organised and run by our London  Branch. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview:- Thermoplastic composites offer lightweight, durable solutions for aerospace and automotive industries but present challenges in joining techniques. This presentation highlights two key projects, TC Tool and BRACE. TCTool is focused on aerospace applications; advanced welding methods for assembling complex thermoplastic fuselage components, while BRACE aims to introduce a new joining method for automotive manufacturing through the innovative Polymer Coated Material (PCM) joining technique, improving component stiffness and enabling disassembly for recycling. These collaborative efforts between academia and industry demonstrate significant advancements in composite technology, driving sustainability and performance improvements in both industries.

Speaker:- Dr Sadik Omairey

Speaker Biography:- Dr. Sadik Omairey is a Senior Research Fellow at Brunel Composites Centre (BCC), and Research and Technology Project Manager at the Non-metallic Innovation Centre (NIC). He is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (CEng MIMechE), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research interest is in the area of composite materials homogenisation, reliability, optimisation, manufacturing and joining.
