London Branch Technical Talk

This is a London and Kent Branch event organised and run by our London  Branch. Other members and non-members are welcome to join us.

Overview:- This lecture will present the fundamentals and the latest developments in solid state diffusion bonding which is normally used to bond the alloys, composites and ceramics which cannot be joined using conventional welding processes such as arc or laser welding.

Example applications presented will include fabrication of key components for vaccine sterilisers (as used during the Covid-19 pandemic) and Printed Circuit Heat Exchangers (PCHE). The presentation should be of interest to all interested in materials joining technology but also academics and research engineers who are looking for new value-added manufacturing processes.

Dr Shirzadi will be bringing samples to the meeting for us to examine

Speaker:- Dr Amir Shirzadi (Open University and Cambridge Joining Technology)

Speaker Biography:- Dr Amir Shirzadi has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and holds several patents in Diffusion Bonding. He has established a research lab at The Open University where he develops novel methods for joining un-weldable materials. He is also the Director of Cambridge Joining Technology and Fellow of TWI and IoM3.
